Adventures Abound at Anchor Center’s Summer Program

07/19/11

With Merial the Mermaid as their mascot, students are splashing into the summer program at Anchor Center for Blind Children with our Magic, Math and Mermaids theme. Encouraging imagination and creative play is the goal this summer utilizing sensory games, books and activities. Parents, students and volunteers are enjoying the summer program offerings.

Performing magic tricks, immersing in mermaid lore along with counting are among the many summer program activities.

Volunteers like Patti Ann, who introduced the concept of cooking smores using the sun, are critical during these short weeks to keep kids active, entertained and educated.

Bella, one of Anchor Center’s volunteers, is using her time off school to help out Anchor Center students and says, “I like helping the kids because I like being around them and we’re doing a lot of fun things.” Currently she is looking forward to introducing her new-found friends to the Slip-n-Slide and other fun activities to come in the following weeks.
