The Anchor Center for Blind Children's staff members endeavor to maintain current information regarding a wide variety of subjects related to children with vision loss. Below are suggestions for books, trainings, articles, journals, resources, and web links related to the area of vision and vision loss. Please also see Parent Resources, Resources and Links for suggested resources that may be of special interest to parents and families. Perkins Publication Brochure
Lists publications for teachers and caregivers of students who are blind or visually impaired. We are pleased to be able to offer you the newest on-line brochure of our publications.

Dr. Lea Hyvarinen

Vision Associates
Sells many of Dr. Lea's testing materials individually and as kits. They have a CVI Kit which includes the rectangles, mailbox, gratings, Heidi expressions, a video and a CD. They also sell a Birth to Three Multihandicapped Vision Kit which includes the Heidi doll, fixation sticks, 3-D Puzzle, near acuity test, distance acuity test, and the low contrast Heidi cards. This company also sells a video, "Pediatric Vision Testing", which demonstrates the use of many of her testing materials.

National Braille Press
National Braille Press has a new online presence, where you can: order books online, subscribe to the Children's Braille Book Club, sign up for Readbooks!, and browse their textbook catalog, etc. The ReadBooks! American Foundation for the Blind Store
The recently published Braille Literacy: A Functional Approach, written by Diane P. Wormsley, with Frances Mary D'Andrea as consulting editor, is a new resource for teachers and other service providers. It presents a clear, step-by-step approach to teaching the reading and writing of Braille to both children and adults challenged by learning Braille. The Perkins Panda Early Literacy Program is a collection of materials that guides through children's early experiences which lay the foundation for literacy. Each panda sells for $21.95 or the complete kit is $94.95.

Braille Bug- American Foundation for the Blind
The Braille bug, an animated ladybug with six dots of the Braille cell on her back, greets children, both sighted and visually impaired, to the new interactive channel on the AFB's Web site. She also helps them understand the "code" of Braille.

A Low Incidence Network for Training and Technical Assistance that focuses on early childhood issues specifically related to low incidence disabilities of visual impairment, autism, deaf and hard of hearing, and child mental health.

NORD (Nat'l Org for Rare Disorders)
NORD, since 1983, has kept databases on over 1,100 rare conditions and diseases. Rare syndromes and eye condition information can be found here in the alphabetical index. Also, NORD has information on organizations, agencies, and other support groups to assist those affected by rare disorders.
